The PGIPBS was established in 1975, and it is conveniently located at No. 133, Dutugemunu Street, Kohuwala, Sri Lanka. This institute is fully dedicated to the postgraduate studies in Pali and Buddhist Studies. Our Academic Staff is composed of members trained in both local and foreign universities. Their academic excellence and dedication have been noted as an asset for the Institute.
Since its inception, the PGIPBS has been a center of excellence, attracting both local and foreign students. As the registration figures indicate, the number of students who seek entrance to our programmes has kept ever increasing. Currently, the institute hosts the highest number of overseas students in any institute in the country.
Library of the PGIPBS consists of good collections of primary and secondary sources including recent publications in Buddhism, Pali, Sanskrit and related disciplines.
Recognizing the quality of the institute, academic centers in Singapore and Hong Kong, have affiliated with us to conduct our courses in their institutes. I am proud to mention here that our alumni serve as faculty members both at national and international universities.
